Friday October 3rd 9:00pm Leilah $5.00 Cover
Leilah, isn't new to music. She was born to it...her birthright. Her first top 10 hit in Canada came at the age of eight, with "Grandma We Love You". She has traveled the world in a musical family, the daughter of Melanie ("I've Got A Brand New Pair of Rollerskates", "Look What They've Done To My Song"), and part of the group Safka (with her sister, Jeordie, and brother, Beau) www.myspace.com/leilah
Johanna Jacobsen Johanna is originally from Saratoga Springs, NY. She has played music her entire life - beginning with the violin at age 7. She later joined the Empire State Youth Orchestra, where she got the opportunity to tour and play in Austria and Hungary. She was also involved in band and chorus. In 2000, Johanna moved to Nashville, TN and by 2002 began learning the craft of songwriting (and how to play guitar!). Since then, she has joined the band, Shed, where she adds the harmony vocals to their sound. The summer of 2007 brought her the opportunity to tour with Shed to and play at venues such as Indian Ranch and the Hampton Beach Casino, where they opened for Gretchen Wilson. They made this trip again this year, along with opening for Charlie Daniels in September...You can find Johanna playing acoustic shows, as well as full band shows, all around Nashville. www.myspace.com/johannajacobsen www.reverbnation.com/johannajacobsen |

Friday, Oct 10 9:00pm Singer songwriter evening...featuring Laura Blackley, Brian Mcgee and friends... $5.00cover
*"You can't get something out of your art if it don't sting a little bit..." Laura Blackley's philosophy on music might sound a little painful, but it epitomizes what she's all about-- country heartbreak, Southern Comfort-soaked blues, and backwater gospel soul. www.myspace.com/laurablackley
*Back, way back, before America was America, there were songs. Songs about drinking and death and regret and fear and anger and love. These songs have been all around the world. Each new generation in each place tinkers with them a bit, changing up the words and melodies, making them louder or softer or faster or slower. Brian McGee hasn't died yet, but has done and felt all those other things in spades. And until he does die, these songs are his. They are in his lungs and in his hands. www.myspace.com/mcgeehollowspeed |

Friday, Oct 17 9:00pm Jazz the Ripper $5.00 cover
We are a young band from Asheville, North Carolina, creating our own style of music. The oldest band member is 17. We are making our music while at the same time, following the lead of the great Jazz artists and Funk bands before us such as: Tower of Power, Earth Wind and Fire, Galactic, Herbie Hancock, and James Brown. What sets us aside from many other bands, is that the majority of our music is original. JTR started out in the fall of 2007 as a jam band. We played together a few months and wrote a song or two. A few band members came and went, but we got serious when Will and James joined the band. We wrote some songs, learned some covers, and played a few gigs around Asheville, trying out our "style". As we wrote more of our own material, each one of us contributing to every song, we began to realize our potential, and that with our combined efforts, we could create a new and unique jazz/funk fusion sound. www.sonicbids.com/jazztheripper www.myspace.com/jazztheripper

Friday, Oct 24 9:00pm Hannah Miller $5.00 cover
"Hannah Miller returns to the Back Room, but this time with a full band in tow. The group consists of Hannah's own husband, James, on mandolin and electric guitar, J. Allen Graham on bass, and Clayton Bozard on drums. Though newly formed, this foursome is a force to be reckoned with, as they bring buzzing energy into Miller's already solid live performances."
"The arrangements are stunning, and Miller's singing and guitar playing are smooth and polished. Miller's sultry voice is rich with feeling, shimmering with grace and faith. Her music...grabs the listener's soul, setting one up for a beautiful listening experience." Southeast Performer Magazine "What makes Miller's approach so enticing is the way she carries melodies, holding onto a syllable a bit longer than expected or lavishing her range on an unexpected note. Her voice, breathy and delicate, conjures Rachel Yamagata and Feist, but Miller's individuality is undeniable." The State Newspaper, Columbia, SC

Saturday Oct 25 9:00pm Gigi Dover and the Big Love
Being born, bred and quite possibly buttered below the Mason-Dixon line most assuredly has it 's advantages, as life seems to unfold at a pace all it 's own. Nowhere is that more evident than in the music currently emanating from the South. Perhaps that is why Gigi Dover can so aptly be described as Southern. A sultry, soulful songstress, who 's music blurs the lines between rock and soul while respectfully flirting with country along the edges. Gigi Dover - Vocals, Acoustic Guitar :: Eric Lovell - Vocals, Guitars, Sitar :: David 6 Clark - Bass :: Jason "Baby J" Atkins - Keys :: James Zogzas - Drums :: John Spurrier - Drums www.gigidover.net www.musicforamerica.org www.myspace.com/gigidoverandthebiglove |

Saturday, November 1 9:00pm Wink Keziah and his band Delux Motel $5.00 cover
A listen to Wink Keziah & Delux Motel on their red-hot new album Working Songs For The Drinking Class or at their scorching live shows quickly evokes the old saying: That’s what I like about the South. Born and bred in North Carolina, Keziah is a genuine urban hillbilly who makes music at the same fulcrum where country meets rock’n’roll that Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins first developed when they entered Sun Studios in the mid-1950s. It’s a style and sound nourished by moonshine, draped in kudzu, and road tested at hundreds of barrooms. Call it outlaw country, high-test honky-tonk, hillbilly rock or whatever you like. What Wink Keziah and Delux Motel play is music that’s as country as the hills yet as useful for the modern age as your computer, and as true to life as a hangover or a heartache.

Thursday, November 6 8:00pm The Family Eversole
The Family Eversole, in theory and method, is a bluegrass band. And this label does not come lightly. Bluegrass music, in our opinion, is the sounds of bands like Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, the Stanley Brothers, and so on, including just a few bands called "bluegrass" today. These were the bands that really knew how to play that mountain style music that you could feel with every part of your soul. This is what the Family Eversole sets out to accomplish with their interpretation of the tradtional sounds of Bluegrass and the old time string bands. A combination of tested and true music from the veins of American culture, and rampant creativity that produces totally original songs creates a beast that could only exist here and now. Hot instrumental pickin, good vocal harmonies, and great tunes make it easy to open your heart and move your feet. www.myspace.com/thefamilyeversole |

The good ole' boy quality in Segal's sound is evocative of late Springsteen." www.todyeforband.com www.myspace.com/garrysegal |

Saturday, November 8 9:00pm Dave Desmelik
Dave Desmelik has established himself as an accomplished and rising singer/songwriter whose music might best be described as Americana or Alt/Country. Drawing upon influences from country to bluegrass to blues to rock and roll, Desmelik writes and performs a unique blend of songs. Dave's most recent CD 'Unheard Of' reached #16 on the EuroAmericana chart (June 2007) and was voted 2007 #16 best regional CD by the listeners of WNCW radio.
'Dave Desmelik's brand of Americana is the kind that makes you neither cry in your beer nor suck it down at a grim pace. His is the kind that makes you stop drinking for just a moment to acknowledge it with an emotional nod, a shiver of recognition that touches your own experience.' -Joe Sample (Focus newspaper)

Thursday, November 13 8:00pm Charles Wood and The Lonesome Road Band
"Great acoustic music" is the statement that best describes the music of The Lonesome Road Band. Using the traditional tools of bluegrass in creating their music, to categorize them strictly as bluegrass would be a misrepresentation. Their repertoire consists of everything from Bill Monroe's "My Sweet Blue Eyed Darlin'" to the Moody Blues' "Nights In White Satin". The group's haunting, bluegrass inspired harmonies stir the souls of even the most mundane listeners. Their approach to the music they perform is undeniably top shelf. The vocals are up front with lead and supporting harmonies weaving effortlessly. Their vocals blend so well that it is difficult to tell who is singing each part.

Thursday, Nov. 20 8:00pm Pisgah Forest Pickers
Western North Carolinahas long been famous for many great things, including beautiful national forest lands and being home to some of the best roots music and musicians found anywhere. The Pisgah Pickers represent the culmination of both. The group was founded six years ago in Brevard, NC, by Steep Canyon Rangers' guitarist/singer Woody Platt and mandolin player/singer Mike Guggino. The idea behind the group was to bring together pickers living in the Brevard community to play shows locally when their respective bands were not touring nationally. Joining the guys on fiddle is Steve Trisman, known for his amazing work with rock band Jupiter Coyote and Gypsy-swing band One Leg Up. Playing bass is Mike Ashworth, known for many years as the drummer with jam/rock band Fifth House who in recent years has become THE go to bass player for many of the regions finest touring bands. The latest and greatest edition to the Brevard community and the Pisgah Forest Pickers is accomplished drummer Jeff Sipe. Jeff is a founding member of the Aquarium Rescue Unit and has played with such greats as Phil Lesh (Grateful Dead), Trey Anastasio (Phish) and Leftover Salmon. The Pisgah Forest Pickers play a variety of tunes from bluegrass, classic country, reggae and rock and roll in a way that is all their own. Three and four-part vocal harmonies and extended improvisational jams are central to the sound of the group. Every show is a new and exciting experience you do not want to miss! |

Friday, Nov. 21 9:00pm Galen Kipar
The Galen Kipar Project has been an ever-evolving musical experience that has gathered a tapestry of musicians and instruments over the past 10 years. Each musician has brought something special to the sound, keeping things fresh, spontaneous, and energized. The Galen Kipar Project began as the efforts of one young Galen, inspired by the music of Paul Simon, Dylan, Cat Stevens, and Joni Mitchell. Through these influences he gained the ambition to teach himself how to sing, play guitar and harmonica simultaneously allowing him to begin the exploration of composition and the art of creating music. The GKP has grown to embrace the passion and energy of each musician involved in the project. The GKP has been a journey of self-discovery, music, and friendship, as each member taps the creativity within their spirit to create the music of their soul. As they continuously challenge themselves to create a profound musical experience for their listeners and for each other, their music has gained the strength of genuine maturity.

Friday, November 28 9:00pm Born Broke $5.00cover
JEFF on Guitar, ADAM on Bass and TYLER on Drums *** Although many bands are weary of the "retro" tag, Born Broke proudly proclaims themselves to be a "blast from the past." The Hendersonville, North Carolina-based group began as a "straight ahead rock band," but has since incorporated the sounds of '70s country rock, bluegrass and blues into their sound. The band has been together about six years and they have developed a tight and polished sound, which makes them great for small venue. They just released a cd titled Born Broke 07, with another in the making. Born Broke is an almost all original band, but play some tasty cover songs as well. Unlike some acts out there, Born Broke never seems to sway too far in one direction or the other; they balance jams with solid organized songs. www.myspace.com/bornbroke3

Saturday, November 29 9:00pm Hudson K $5.00cover
Five long black dresses and seven years of playing concert piano music for very quiet and attentive audiences has proven to be both a solid foundation and a breaking point for Christina Horn. Although she learned how to handle the stage, she also discovered she needed a medium that would allow her to express more of her originality. Before breaking out of the classical world, Christina explored compositions where plucking and pounding on the thick bass strings and the harp-like upper register of a full-sized grand were part of the performance. This technique created a sound that inspired some unique combinations. Paired with inventive melodies and rhythms, Christina dreamed up a music that could combine the beauty, grace, and sophistication of classical music, the ethereal sounds of modern experimentation, and the lyrical prosody of songwriting. Several rock bands later, Christina went solo. The songs she was writing were taking on a life of their own and needed to live alone. She could be heard any Tuesday night playing the Preservation Pub's open mic, drawing the attention of local songwriters and anyone who was sober enough to stand still and listen. Not your typical singer-songwriter, her performance stood out against the array of guitarists and folky Americana-style writers. After several songwriting showdowns a judge
